At the Grové Schoombee Foundation NPC, every heartbeat of our work is centred around one goal — to protect and uplift the most vulnerable children in South Africa. As we mark World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on 30 July, our hearts are heavy with the reality that thousands of children are still being bought, sold, and exploited — right here, within our borders.
But our hearts are also filled with hope.
At our safehouse, Daybreak House, we had the privilege — and heartbreak — of caring for a little baby girl who had been trafficked. She arrived fragile and small, the trauma of her short life etched into her tiny frame. She became a symbol to us of the evil that exists… but also of the healing that’s possible. She was nurtured, protected, and eventually adopted into a loving forever family last year. That is the power of safe places and people who refuse to look away.
“Children are not for sale. Every child has the right to grow up safe, loved, and free.”
Human trafficking is a silent predator — hidden in plain sight, thriving on silence and disbelief. But we believe that awareness changes everything, and that ordinary people can become defenders of justice.
How You Can Help Fight Human Trafficking:
-
Stay alert. Learn the signs of trafficking — children who are withdrawn, don’t go to school, or seem to be under someone’s control may be at risk.
-
Report suspicious activity. Don’t stay silent. In South Africa, report concerns to SAPS Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or call Unchain Our Children’s 24/7 emergency number.
-
Support organisations on the front lines.
We are grateful to have a collaborative friendship with Unchain Our Children, an organisation that works tirelessly to rescue children, reunite families, and expose the darkness. Their courage inspires us daily. -
Volunteer. Donate. Share. Whether it’s giving time, resources, or simply sharing verified information on social media, your voice matters.
“The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one child are threatened.”
John F. Kennedy
Together, we can break the chains, light up the darkness, and build a country where every child is protected and cherished.
From Daybreak House to the streets of our communities, let’s fight for the children who cannot fight for themselves.
Thank you for standing with us.
